Yacht Life in Croatia

. August 05, 2017 .
Like I did, you’ve probably noticed Life Before Work Travel via their wanderlust triggering videos on your Facebook feed – you know those crazy beautiful short movies about either sailing across stunning islands or a crazy festival adventure where everyone looks like they’re having the time of their lives? So when I was invited to spend a week on a yacht in Croatia with LBW I of course had to fit it into my crazy travel schedule this summer.

Croatia has been on my hit list for years now and I knew when I visited I wanted to see all of the islands, so doing it by boat was always how I envisioned seeing the place. So of course, I felt totally spoilt seeing it on LBW’s absolutely gorgeous and grand sailing yacht. Different to the smaller-scale sailing trips I’ve done in the past, our yacht had bedrooms for each of the 30+ guests, an upper and lower outside deck for sunbathing, a bar, dining areas come dance floors and even a hot tub! The perfect place to sail the Adriatic and party with a bunch of amazing people.

I felt spoilt not only with our beautiful home for the week but also by the bloody great group of people who’d form the best team for the next 7 days. Though I’ve done a fair bit of solo travel now, it’s still a bit nerve wracking rocking up to a new destination all by yourself not knowing what to expect – but I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Mostly Australians, a few Americans, an Irish and only one fellow Brit, we were one big dysfunctional and severely hungover family by the end of the week! I roomed with the loveliest Irish girl Katelynn who I met right on check in at Split harbour and we got on so well straight away. And soon after that, I met Sydney and Riah who were to be my little girl squad for the week!

It’s one of the best things about trips like these – travelling with the same group of people and doing everything from swimming, eating, partying and exploring together. It’s a time when the most fun friendships form and even though there were over 30 of us, everyone got to know each other so well, personalities bounced off each other and there’d be jokes that lasted the whole week.

And on top of this beautiful bunch of lively souls, we had the 3 most awesome LBW guides to help us have the perfect time – from partying alongside us, DJ’ing and organising some of the sickest trips and even arranging last minute boat parties when an almighty storm had us docked in Makarska for an extra day. Paul, Matty and Sean were the most dedicated insanely fun bunch of guys from LBW and couldn’t have done enough to make sure everyone on the boat was having the best possible time.

Aside from the great company, I of course got to enjoy so many breathtakingly beautiful parts of Croatia. It’s hard to describe how incredible some of the things we got to see were – so that’s were I’ll let the plethora of photos in this post do the talking. The trip in it’s entirety was just a collection of amazing experiences in these pretty places, I’d be here all day if I talked you through it all – but I can’t not mention some highlights.

Bungee jumping over the Makarska riviera had to be one of the most frightening but exhilarating experiences of my life – nearly bottling it twice at the top of the crane it took every cell in me to force myself over that ledge but it was such an awesome experience and I’ve got the most hilarious helmet go-pro video to show for it.

Hiking down a mountain to be rewarded with the most beautiful Stiniva beach (not kidding – it was voted best beach in Europe last year!) on the island of Vis was super hard, but so worth it once we got to swim in the crystal clear turquoise waters in the stunning secluded bay. Dinner at Fort George in Vis was probably one of the most magical restaurant settings I’ve ever dined in and I was so glad I saved my best dress for it! We had the most epic sunset views on the terrace (which got me dreaming of the perfect wedding spot!) and they even made me an off-menu espresso martini which was of course just made my night.

Tied with Vis in my favourite of the islands was Hvar. From enjoying breathtaking panoramic views of the harbour from (another) fort, to sipping strawberry margaritas at Hula Hula beach club then come evening time getting a short ferry over to the neighbouring party island (yep) Carpé Diem which was literally out of this world crazy and probably one of the best nights out of my life!

So all in all, you could say I had a pretty bloody AMAZING time and was so so sad to leave the yacht and all my new friends. And I wasn’t kidding about forming great friendships, I’ve since been to see my girl Sydney in Madrid for a couple days – because separation anxiety. Thank you so much to Life Before Work for having me on such a crazy fun adventure – I think it’s been my favourite travel collab to date.

In addition to Yacht Life in Croatia, Greece and the Med, LBW do loads of other incredible tours in central and south America to places like Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil and Panama (next on my list!) and Asia to Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. If you’re looking at travelling with friends or by yourself like me to any of these places, I think doing a tour with these guys is such a perfect way to do it – you’ll be in amazing hands and they’ll plan almost everything for you. There really is something so special about travelling with a group of brand new friends. Visit their website here for all the info, prices and dates on all of their awesome tours.
