Last week I took a trip to Bristol Fashion Week for their SS13 press show! I was unfortunately unable to make the live blogging show, but had a fabulous time on the Thursday attending the press show on behalf of Whatson Bristol magazine. We were greeted with pink champagne and cupcakes (I totally didn't scoff 3..) in the pavilion and then shown to our seats! The show was probably one of the best to date, collections from the Mall Cribbs Causeway were sent down the runway across a series of sets, featuring looks from many brands including M&S, John Lewis, River Island and Karen Millen to name a few. My favorite scene had to be the Karen Millen one, it was heavily inspired by the Louis Vuitton show- my fave from the SS13 shows- with checkerboards, matchy-matchy prints and flashes of yellow. It was also lovely to meet and interview presenters Mark Heyes and Andrew Barton again, two of the most lovely and most hilarious men in fashion I've met! Click below to read the interview and see my fave snaps from the show!

What have been your favourite trends this season?
M: Black and white stripes- I’m really loving how a lot of people are doing vertical stripes, we’ve not seen that really before, it’s always horizontal. It’s cheaper to cut the cloth on the way it’s printed, it’s more expensive to do a vertical stripe but the high-street have kind have had to just do it this time, a striped blazed is my must have piece this season!
A: I’m loving the digital prints, I thought some of those in M&S in particular were really interesting and quite brave for Marks & Spencer, they seem to be following the trends really well.

Which of the S/S designer shows were your favourites?
M: I loved the Dolce & Gabbana collection, their combination of the floral’s, playful prints and the stripes and its still very commercial. From a theatrical point of view I thought Louis Vuitton was amazing, all coming down on 5 escalators in monochrome and yellow.
A: Louis Vuitton also, I loved the hair from that show too. To create a good beehive you need good backcombing, dry shampoo and tease only from mid-length not the tips, keep it small and then go bigger and bigger!

Which high street store is best emulating catwalk trends?
M: H&M’s trend rage is really good for getting things out quickly, and I quite like what River Island do in the sense of taking inspiration form the catwalk, but still keep it quite ‘River Island.’ It’s a family owned British company and I quite like that they’ve kept their image quite integral in the store.

Do you have any tips for dressing for spring/summer in this dreary weather?
M: A trusty blazer goes a long long way, even a 1950’s summer dress looks great with a little boyfriend blazer just slouched over the top, neutral coloured ones are great this season.

Andrew what are the top hair trends for S/S?
Playful hair colouring is going on, the dip-dye/ombreing effect is continuing through into A/W with colourful plays on it. if you’ve got a conservative job you can have bits done underneath and bring them out on the weekend.  Hair accessories are big as well, Claire’s and Accecorize are doing fantastic jobs with that at the moment.

And what’s the best ‘do for when you’ve only got a few minutes but still want your hair to look good?
A:Think ahead- the night before pin waves close to your head and sleep in it so the next morning all you’ll have to do is take them out. Also you can’t beat a dry shampoo, not only does it gather all the oil it smells gorgeous as well- the Andrew Barton one at Asda is brilliant!

What should we be expecting for AW?
M: Winter pastels, animal prints from leopard through to tiger, cow and dalmation, conversational prints- Burberry did love hearts, Henry Holland did martini glasses. Red seemed to be the biggest colour for the season- Dolce & Gabbana sent an entire set down the runway that was entirely red!
